The China Study

Introduction
These are my thoughts and links on the China Study. This is one of the most polarizing "studies" ever to come out and is often quoted as fact. It does not appear to me however to be able to stand up against criticism and appears to often come up with the wrong conclusions.

Heavy Metal Toxicity and Chelation

Introduction
This is my thoughts on heavy metal toxicity, its effects, and potential solutions to heavy metal toxicity. These are based on information I have read and are not intended to treat anyone's health issues.

Toxicity
Is heavy metal toxic.....yup. Glad we got that one over with. Aluminium and mercury are probably the most well known for heavy metal toxicity. Heavy metal toxicity has been linked to brain disorders such as autism and alzheimers. Is this the cause of all cases of autism and alzheimers? Not likely. But many testimonials have declared significant improvements to these conditions following a chelation and lowering of these heavy metals in the body. Heavy metals are known to build up over time in the body, thus you may not notice when the toxicity initially began, however once someone is tipped over the edge, who knows what damage it is doing. Aluminium is a neurotoxin. When consumed, 5% of aluminuim is taken up and stored in the body. When applied to the body as as through anti-perspirants, as much as 40% of aluminium is stored in the body! Where it is stored in the body is also significant. When aluminium bonds with flouride, flouride helps carry aluminium across the blood/brain barrier where it can then unleash its havoc with one of your most important organs. Mercury is known to be one of the most toxic substances known to man. It is extremely toxic to the human body. It can be taken through flu vaccines, as well as eating larger fish-eating-fish. Aluminium can also be absorbed through vaccines, black tea, and even from the environment.

Chelation
Chelation has been sworn by many to be able to reduce the heavy metals in their body and also to help them or their children recover from various health issues. There are a number of chelation kits out there to assist with this but it is always best to seek the advice of a health professional.

Other common foods that can assist with the removal of heavy metals from the body:
  • Chloryphill
  • Spirulina
  • Olive leaf extract

Solutions: Exercise, Oxygen, Fat and Muscle

Introduction
These are my thoughts on exercise and research I have read in this regard. These may or may not be my opinions and are not intended to diagnose anyones issues. These are for my own benefit only.

PACE
Do leg lunges, knee bends, leg raises, push ups, etc Do 100 reps. Rest then do it again faster. This causes short period stress on the body to increase lung capacity and heart capacity. Long periods of exercise diminish capacity by forcing your body to become more efficient. This is not a good thing.

This is an exercise plan I would like to put into practice:

Weeks 1 and 2
Begin by developing an exercise routine based on activities you enjoy. Your goal is to perform this exercise for 20 minutes at a time at low intensity. If you can’t exercise for 20 minutes without stopping, rest as needed. As you’re starting out, write down what you do. It’s helpful to determine your current level of fitness to use as a baseline to track your progress.
In the second week, begin experimenting with the pace. Push yourself a little harder and then ease up a bit. Vary your pace as much as you feel comfortable.

As you play with the pace, begin to develop an internal scale of how intensely you exercise. Use a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 or 2 is a leisurely pace, all the way up to full throttle at 9 or 10.
Week 1:
• Exercise for 20 minutes at a comfortable intensity level of 2 or 3.
Week 2:
• Exercise for 20 minutes at varying intensity levels, recording your pace and how hard it feels.
Weeks 3 and 4
In weeks three and four, increase the amount of work you do in the same amount of time. If you exercise on a treadmill or cycling machine, push yourself to cover more distance in the same time.
Your workout now consists of two intervals, with a rest period in between. During the periods of rest, you don’t have to be completely inactive. You will do better to keep moving at low intensity while you recover.
Week 3:
• Exercise for 9 minutes at intensity level 3
• Rest for 2 minutes
• Exercise for 9 minutes at intensity level 4
Week 4:
• Exercise for 8 minutes at intensity level 4
• Rest for 4 minutes
• Exercise for 8 minutes at intensity level 5
Weeks 5 and 6
In weeks five and six, exercise more intensely during three somewhat shorter intervals.

Week 5:
• Exercise for 6 minutes at intensity level 3
• Rest for 2 minutes
• Exercise for 6 minutes at intensity level 5
• Rest for 2 minutes
• Exercise for 6 minutes at intensity level 4
Week 6:
Decrease each exercise period to 5 minutes, while you increase the intensity by one level. Since you are working a little harder, allow yourself 3 minutes of leisurely-paced rest to recover between intervals.
Weeks 7 and 8
It’s time to put the “accelerating” component of your PACE program into play. Your goal is to take less and less time to reach the point of your greatest effort. The result is that you complete more intervals during the same time and you increase the level quicker.
The shorter your intervals of greatest intensity, the faster you condition your body for maximal capacity.

Week 7:
• Exercise for 4 minutes at intensity level 4
• Rest for 2 minutes
• Exercise for 3 minutes at intensity level 6
• Rest for 2 minutes
• Exercise for 2 minutes at intensity level 7
• Rest for 3 minutes
• Exercise for 3 minutes at intensity level 5
Week 8:
Now you will shorten your first interval a little and increase the intensity of your second interval a bit. You are “accelerating” your challenge with your highest effort occurring earlier.
• Exercise for 3 minutes at intensity level 4
• Rest for 2 minutes
• Exercise for 3 minutes at intensity level 7
• Rest for 2 minutes
• Exercise for 3 minutes at intensity level 7
• Rest for 2 minutes
• Exercise for 3 minutes at intensity level 5
As you continue to pick up the pace, increase the intensity of your workout and the number of exercise intervals. At the same time, shorten the length of your exercise sessions.
You may be doing three five-minute intervals with two three-minutes rests. As you progress, shorten the length of your exercise intervals to four, three, two, and then one minute. Work a little harder during these shorter exercise sessions.
When you get used to PACE and use it to your full advantage, your workout sessions usually last less than 12 minutes.

EWOT
EWOT is Exercise with Oxygen Therapy. You take in oxygen from an oxygen concentrator while exercising and it allows your body to work more efficiently. This allows more oxygen to be utilised by the cells in the body and therefore assist in decreasing the symptoms of a number of health issues. This can apparently give a lot of energy to those who are feeling the effects of time, and thereby giving older people the ability to feel younger again. I think this is an intriguing topic however finding an oxygen concentrator is a little difficult (read: pricey) but one day I want to give this a go.

Drop Fat and Gain Muscle with Chromium
A study at the University of Kentucky showed that feeding Chromium to pigs increased lean muscle mass and decreased fat. An Austrian study showed the exact same thing with humans. Apparently also 90% of Americans do not get enough Chromium in their diet. Junk food makes this even worse as sugar forms phytic acid and this blocks the uptake of Chromium in the body.

Cant stop eating? Drop the High Fructose Corn Syrup
This HFCS sugar is in almost everything! And it increases the bodies production of leptin. This is the signal that tells the body when you are full. If this goes into over production then the body ignores the signal and does not tell you that you are full!

Chromium
Chromium is supposed to reduce weight and blood sugar levels and also build muscle mass.

Introduction
These are my thoughts on oxygen and potential roles in the human body. These are opinions only and not intended to treat anyone's problems.

Oxygen Concentrator
I have read a lot about this new exercise called EWOT - Exercise with Oxygen Therapy. This is where a workout is performed at the same time as concentrated oxygen is given.

Plants and growing lights

Introduction
This is my thoughts on plants and infrared growing lights.

Infrared Growing Lights

Infrared growing lights can be found at www.groleds.com.au and plug into a normal fitting such as a lamp.

Indoor plants

Vegetable garden plants
Fruit trees to grow: apples, apricots, olives, oranges, plums
For trees that dont respond well to the weather: use grow LEDs and/or a greenhouse
For indoors: Grow alfalfa and sprouts

Remedies: Miscellaneous

Introduction
This is my thoughts and findings on different issues that I have read about. This is not meant to diagnose anyones condition but is for my own personal information only.

Trigger Finger
Years ago, Dr. John Ellis found that taking 100 milligrams of vitamin
B6 three times a day for several months almost always eliminates this condition.

Organic Versus Conventional Produce

Introduction
These are my thoughts around the organic versus conventional debate. In my view there is no question that organic is better for you and better for the environment. My opinions however are just that. If you feel concerned about this topic, then feel free to perform your own research and form your own opinions.

Salmonella
Salmonella is a fecal contaminate. Feeding chickens with contaminated food can cause that bacteria to enter their bloodstream and into their ovaries where its passed on to the eggs - maybe the ones that you are eating. Studies have shown that organic eggs contain far less salmonella than those produced using conventional practices. To prevent salmonella poisoning, you can try to buy organic, free-range eggs where the chickens are eating grass and feed with no hormones, steroids, etc

Mineral and Vitamin Content
Records show that nutrient content of produce have decreased dramatically in the last 50 years. This is most likely due to bad farming practices which deplete the soil of these nutrients. See the following link: http://asap.sustainability.uiuc.edu/members/dananderson/wortfolder/food%20composition.pdf which shows the changes in mineral content between 1950 and 1999.

Remedies: Brain Nutrients

Introduction
This is a list of my thoughts and things that I have read about in relation to the brain. This is not intended to assist anyone in resolving their own problems and is here for my own benefit.

CoEnzymeQ10
This is generally known as the heart nutrient, but it is alsothe key energy transporter for every cell in your body. As you get older, you simply don't produce as much CoQ10 as you used to. CoQ10 however has been proven through research at the National Academy of Science to have anti-aging benefits in the brain.

Acetylcholine
This is a crucial brain chemical.

My Ponderings

Introduction
These are my ponderings and quotes about anything in general.

Front Car Syndrome
Ever gone driving in your car to find yourself behind a whole line of cars travelling painfully slow? I have. And I notice it is almost always the front car that is the cause of the issues. Is this Murphy's law at play or is there something more going on here. Lets delve into the psych of the front car driver. When someone is behind traffic, it is frustrating to say the least to be behind others. But there is a reason for it.

So this is what I think is going on:

The "we don't want to be behind attitude". This is the attitude that most of us have when we are behind this line of cars. We hate not being the front runner in this 'race'. We wish we were that car in the front so we can accelerate and go as fast as we want!

The "we want to set the pace attitude". This is a change of mindset within the same indivual once they are at the front of the pack. On a busy single lane road, they know that noone can pass them and revel in the fact that they are setting the pace for the rest of the traffic. This is due to each persons 'need' to get on a power trip and control other drives on the road. So while noone can pass, we purposely go a little slower than the speed limit to remind everyone behind that we are important. Once a single lane road becomes a multiple lane, the challenge is on. The front car will accelerate, even if subconsciously, in order to not be overtaken by those same cars that have been suppressed up to this point in time. Its a cruel cycle, but that is the way we are.

So now you know why the car in front is always so slow!

Some of my thoughts
All of us act out of an inability to be anything other than human.

The first step to a solution is acknowledging there is a problem. With knowledge, then come hope. With hope, a speedy resolution.

God or no God?
It is always difficult to debate whether or not there is a God as no-one was actually around when the world began. So I guess the only way to determine if there is God is to try to look at the evidence.

Here are some observations from the Bible that were considered by men in those times to be evidence of Gods existence.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world” (Psalm 19:1-4)

“…He has set eternity in the hearts of men.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

I found these arguments on website for the existence of a God.

The ontological argument
The ontological argument uses the concept of God to prove God’s existence. It begins with the definition of God as “a being than which no greater can be conceived.” It is then argued that to exist is greater than to not exist, and therefore the greatest conceivable being must exist. If God did not exist, then God would not be the greatest conceivable being, and that would contradict the very definition of God.

The teleological argument
The teleological argument states that since the universe displays such an amazing design, there must have been a divine Designer. For example, if the Earth were significantly closer or farther away from the sun, it would not be capable of supporting much of the life it currently does. If the elements in our atmosphere were even a few percentage points different, nearly every living thing on earth would die. The odds of a single protein molecule forming by chance is 1 in 10243 (that is a 1 followed by 243 zeros). A single cell is comprised of millions of protein molecules.

The cosmological argument
Every effect must have a cause. This universe and everything in it is an effect. There must be something that caused everything to come into existence. Ultimately, there must be something “un-caused” in order to cause everything else to come into existence. That “un-caused” cause is God.

The moral argument
Every culture throughout history has had some form of law. Everyone has a sense of right and wrong. Murder, lying, stealing, and immorality are almost universally rejected. Where did this sense of right and wrong come from if not from a holy God?

Why are there wars?
The majority of common people don't take issue with the majority of other common people. It is only the ruling class and interested parties who believe there is a war to be fought. We are merely spectators who are without power, forced to endure the perversions and twisted mentality of those who act under the guise of government agencies and elite secret societies.

My Favourite Quotes
Einstein: only two things are infinite; the universe and mans stupidity; and I am not sure about the universe.

Depression
Depression is often brought about by a persons opinion of themselves. You may not like the way you look, or feel that everyone is against you. This is almost always in response to how we think the environment perceives us as individuals. Depression is based on reality but can also be a unique distortion (perspective) of reality. Those who suffer depression often have an ability to analyse situations and be able to pickup on the different emotions in the room.

Being around a depressed person is also not easy. If you are having a down day, that may be perceived as a negative feeling by yourself towards them.

Breaking out of a strong depression is not easily done but it is possible. One with depression can enjoy many occassions and have an imense amount of fun when interacted with. In these situations they tend to break out of their shell and become highly interactive. These occasions generally only last as long as the moment however,

These highs give a sense of hope. Hope is what keeps them going. However this will not break one out of the depession cycle. This ability lies only in the hands of the one who is depressed. When depressed, your own thoughts and words take much higher precedence than someone elses. You may believe that others do not value your company or that your appearance is not good enough, that you appear unsightly to others due to physical imperfections, there may be many reasons for depression, all of which are based in truth. It is this belief in such truth that is difficult to overcome. The breaking out of depression is not generally to break this belief but for the depressant to apply a few extra truths to the equation.

The value you place on yourself is far more important than the value others place on you.
You must realize that you cannot fundementally change what others think about you, but that you can change what you think about yourself.

Everyone has imperfections. Therefore to have imperfections is simply to be human. People often feel threatened talking to those who have no visible imperfections, so having imperfections makes you easier to converse with and relate to on the same levels.

Ultimately you need support from family and friends. If you do not have this, there are support groups that you can join where you can be supported.

And always remember. You are not alone!

Bad Medication

Introduction
This section deals with medications and such that have received a bad rap. This is for my personal information only and is not intended to sway anyone elses opinion on medication use.

This is the problem I have with drugs.
1. Drugs almost always work by suppressing a hormone or function in your body, and in practice, this will be bad for your body 100% of the time. Your body was made to produce certain hormones and substances in response to certain conditions in the body. For example, a virus entering your body will trigger your body to create killer cells that seek out and destroy the virus. The thing is, if your body is being overrun by a disease, or your body is creating excess hormones, you should be looking to the cause of this, which may be lack of sleep, nutrition, excercise, oxygen, heavy metal toxicity, EMF poisoning, etc.
2. Drug companies are unethical. It is common for drug companies to know about dangerous side effects of their drugs and then try to cover them up, mislead doctors and patients over safety information, and over-state any possible positives.
3. Drugs have a list of side effects often more dangerous than the original health problem. The result, you start to increase the number of meds you are taking to combat those side effects. Unfortunately the extra drugs also have side effects and eventually you will put yourself into an early grave. My philosophy is that although I dont know the answer to every disease and bodily problem, your body is able to heal itself under the right conditions. I believe in looking for natural treatments for healing and maintaining health.

Painkillers
Source: http://www.theage.com.au/national/painkiller-linked-to-stroke-20100913-159h7.html

Here are some of my favourite quotes from this article: -

“The study found diclofenac, increased the risk of stroke by 86 per cent in people not previously thought to be at risk.”

''There is no good reason why diclofenac should stay on the market, but drug regulation authorities have not taken it on as an issue,'' he said.”

“A spokeswoman for the Therapeutic Goods Administration said it had received eight reports of heart attacks and one of angina in patients taking diclofenac where a causal association was suspected”

These are the results of an 8 year study performed on over 2.6 million Danes who had a prescription for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The above quotes show just how dangerous drugs can stay on the market for a long time. One quote in particular above suggests that the TGA also appears to be relatively unconcerned about this. If this were a natural supplement having this impact I think it would not take long for them to withdraw it from the market. My biggest concern however is this. How many drugs are still on the market that are dangerous to the individuals taking them, and simply have not been studied long enough to determine their safety (or lack of).

Here is the response from the drug company. Quote from the article.

"A spokeswoman from Novartis Australia, which makes Voltaren, said the company did not believe the findings altered the benefit-to-risk assessment for diclofenac."

Are we really so gullible to believe this junk? So death is a risk worth taking so long as you get rid of that headache? I think a more reasonable approach would be to figure out why your head is giving you those aches than pretend it is not there with a drug that doubles your risk of stroke.

“Another drug in the same class, ibuprofen, sold as Nurofen and Advil, was linked to a 30 per cent increased risk of stroke when more than 1200 milligrams were taken.”

This is in regards to a commonly used painkiller called Nurofen. My belief is that poison is poison at all levels of intake. So any amount less than the amount prescribed above also presents a risk, maybe just a lower risk. So here is my recommendation. Don't use painkillers if you can live with the pain! In my way of thinking, they are a last resort only.

Osteoporosis Drugs
Just read recently about a class of osteoporosis medications called
bisphosphonates (which includes Boniva, Fosamax, and Actonel). These drugs are meant to strengthen bones. Appears to have quite a different effect however. Nearly 1000 cases were brough against Merck when womens jawbones started to become "moth-eaten". The drug is also associated with bone necrosis where "bone tissue is starved of blood and begins to collapse". Scary. To make it worse, the drug is also supposed to double your risk of esophageal cancer with long term use.

Not just an increased risk, actually -- the risk seems to be doubled
with long-term use, defined as over five years of use or having 10
prescriptions written for the drugs.

I have recently come across forums where jaw pain appears to be a frequent side effect of these drugs. I would say this is quite likely related. All in all I would say the risk once again does outweigh any potential benefits.

Krystexxa (for treatment of chronic Gout)
This drug is an interesting one. When you look at the side effects, you kind of wonder whether you should just live with the condition. The details of the study and side effects is found at http://www.krystexxa.com/pdfs/KRYSTEXXA_Prescribing_Information.pdf.
Side effects include anaphylaxis, gout flares, congestive heart failure, uticaria, dyspnea, chest discomfort, chest pain, erythema, and pruritus. What is scary that there is a significantly high rate of people who suffer these conditions. All contained in the report.

Diet pills cause stroke
My question is, how did a drug like this get approved in the first place? Here is the article:http://www.watoday.com.au/national/popular-diet-pill-banned-after-links-to-heart-attacks-strokes-20101009-16d38.html?from=age_ft.
And now the name: Sibutramine which is sold as Reductil by pharmaceutical group Abbot. The ironic thing is that drug companies still think they can unnaturally suppress bodily functions and acheive a good outcome. The only way they achieve good outcomes is in their own drug trials and that is by manipulating the results.

Monsanto
This is a reference to the article http://www.naturalnews.com/029325_Monsanto_deception.html

Idiots
I couldn't think of a better title for this. California is looking to approve methyl iodide for use on strawberries. This dangerous substance is used in the lab to induce cancer, and can also cause brain damage and miscarriages. See
http://articles.latimes.com/2010/jun/28/health/la-he-closer-strawberries-pesticide-20100628 for more details.

Longevity ideas

Introduction
This is a list of things that I have read about that are touted to increase longevity.

Telomeres
Telemeres are caps of repetitive DNA that protect the ends of your chromosomes from deteriorating. As your cells duplicate - thus continuing life, the telemeres grow shorter and shorter. Once the telemeres are lost, it is hypothesized that cell duplication ends and therefore so does life. Doctors have therefore been fascinated by ways to prevent the telomeres from reducing and potentially increasing the length of the telomere. That is my non-scientific interpretation - check out Wikipedia if you are more interested in the theory behind this.

It has been theorized that vitamins B12, C, and E may increase the tolemere length.

The oldest living man in the world
There are some inspiring tips from the oldest living man in the world at mercola.com. The URL is http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/10/14/walter-breuning-the-oldest-living-man-in-the-world.aspx.

Bee Pollen
Bee Pollen is a fantastic natural multivitamin also containing a full profile of amino acids. Bee pollen has been touted as the fountain of youth, able to reduce the signs of ageing.

False advertising

Introduction
This is my documentation of what I consider to be false advertising.

Monster Noodles
Now you can see that this product is apparently approved by some "Healthy School Canteen" group so you would think this is a nice healthy product for your kid to be eating. See picture below: -

I will let you be the judge but this product contains a number of flavour enhancers which I certainly wouldn't be placing on my healthy list. In fact this is on my own personal list of no-no foods.

Corporate Lies by the Food Lobby Groups (Australia is no different to US)

I dont agree with everything they say in this article (like the fanciful statement quoted that most aussies are already getting enough nutrients in their food) but it makes some good mention of the issues that I know already plague the US, and according to this article also Australia. Not that I am surprised! It would be naive to think that it does not affect the food industry in every single country in the world.

http://www.theage.com.au/national/get-set-for-our-messiest-food-fight-yet-20110226-1b9b3.html

There is one statement here that emphasises the biggest issue today in marketing of food products and why consumers often believe the lies that come from the food lobbyists and marketing campaigns.

"Webs of influence criss-cross industry-funded food bodies, universities and government-backed food regulators. It is not unusual for people to work for all three simultaneously."

Further in the article it discusses provision of a "traffic light" labelling system to tell you how healthy the food is. I don't agree with the "traffic light" labelling answer myself - a watermelon has a lot of sugar content yet it is not bad for you - would such a system give watermelon a red light?? As one group put it: -

"...that traffic-light labelling ''misleads'' consumers, telling them to ''stop'' eating foods such as dairy that may be high in fat, but can still be part of a healthy diet"

Anyway - if you want to know a bit about how we are deceived into thinking foods such as canola and soy and many others are healthy while coconut and eggs are considered "bad" - read the article...

My diet rules: Simple is better

Introduction
This is my current philosophy about diet and management. I have studies many different diets and tried a number of different variants. I went from worrying about nutrient content to worrying about Carb/Fat/Protein ratios, and then to GI levels.

In the end I decided on a simple diet that doesnt require me to look carefully at figures and try to do sums on ratios and GI levels. This is my diet.

The simple rules that anyone can follow are: -
1. Eat as much unprocessed food as desired. This includes fruit, vegetables, herbal teas, free range meat and wild fish.
2. Limit any pastuerized dairy. Many people find it difficult to process the proteins in pastuerized milk. If you must drink it then try to find unhomogenized and organic.
3. Limit processed foods. Where you must eat processed foods, scan the ingredients and do not use anything that contains flavour enhancers (such as 635) and try to avoid ingredients such as canola, soy, hydrolysed/modified ingredients or transfats.
4. Eliminate any foods that do not leave you feeling good about yourself.

This is a diet that many will disagree with but this forms the basis of my diet.

I believe no one diet fits all. You may find that you have issues eating certain types of foods, but that is for you as an individual to find out. If you always feel bad after a certain type of meal, chances are there is something in it that is not good for the person called you. It could be a great addition to the diet for Jack down the street however.

If you want to see what type of diet is for you then I recommend you check out Doctor Mercola's Nutritional Typing. This is based on the fact that everyone is genetically different and respond best to different foods.

Carbohydrates
Some people have put to me that white rice is a complex carbohydrate and therefore it is good for you. This line of thinking does not make sense to me and I am not sure of the reasoning behind it. The fact is that we need unprocessed carbohydrates. Our bodies have absolutely no requirement for highly processed complex carbohydrates such as white rice, white pasta, white flour, white sugar, etc.

My stance is this. Make sure you get your complex carbohydrates in less processed form if possible. Same with simple carbohydrates. Unprocessed is best. Processed carbs in my opinion are not necessary. See http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/focus/nutrition/facts/lifestylemanagement/carbohydrates.htm which contains some good information on this topic.

Some foods that I like: -
Chia seeds, almonds, walnuts, macadamia nuts

Spinach, lettuce, purple cabbage, peas
Carrots, tomatoes, capsicum, eggplant, cucumber, zucchini, pumpkin

Blueberries, apples, bananas, apricots, watermelon, coconut, mango, aloe, cherries, berries

Parsley, Rosemary, tumeric, cayenne

Unhomogenised organic milk, organic butter and yoghurt and eggs

Organic red meat, wild fish, free range chicken

Multivitamin, Resveratrol, CoenzymeQ10, Vitamin B, Gingko, creatine, taurine, l-carnatine, spirulina, chlorella, vitamin D

Sickness supplements
Epicor, Garlic, Swedish bitters, Olive leaf extract, Soaked cinnamon, Honey and pollen

Remedies: Supplementing during pregnancy

Introduction
This is something I found in an email about supplementation during pregnancy. I have recorded this here for my own information.

Extract of email
My daughter has always been interested in natural health and has taken supplements for years. She's about to have her first child and plans on breast-feeding. Should she keep taking supplements while she's nursing?

Dr. Wright: Nursing or soon-to-be-nursing mothers should certainly be taking supplements, especially folic acid, calcium/magnesium, a high quality multiple vitamin-mineral, and iron. There is one nutrient, however, that your daughter does need to limit: Even "medium-high" quantities of vitamin B6 could suppress prolactin secretion. Prolactin is the principal pituitary hormone that stimulates milk formation in nursing mothers. Even though this fact was documented years ago, it still isn't as well known as it should be.

Your daughter should check to be sure that her total intake of vitamin B6 (including pyridoxine and pyridoxal phosphate) isn't higher than 25 milligrams a day. The lowest amount necessary to "shut off" prolactin is likely 50 milligrams daily or more -- but there's no point in risking a problem.
